One month after Kalki 2898 AD took a nationwide impressive opening at the box office, here is yet another film that has broken the shackles. Deadpool & Wolverine, a superhero film with very popular characters in there, has taken a superb opening at the box office while defying all expectations. The film was always meant to take a good start, given the true cinematic appeal that it came with. The hype was real and on ground buzz was pretty evident as well. Hence, it all came down to what happened on the day of release.
Well, it all turned out to be quite positive with Friday collections coming to Rs. 20 crores*. This is a very good number, especially in the current times when majority of Bollywood films are struggling to hit even Rs. 10 crores mark. However, here comes a film from Hollywood which does that quite comfortably and, in fact, manages to go past even Rs. 20 crores milestone, which is truly impressive. Yes, it isn’t as if a number like this hasn’t been achieved before. In fact, a number of Hollywood films have done even better than this and, in fact, Bollywood films by themselves had set the benchmark last year by going past even Rs. 50 crores, Rs. 60 crores and Rs. 70 crores with ease in their opening weekend. However, 2024 has been a restart year and something like this is most welcome.
The fact that big screen affairs are being lapped up with glee by loyal theatre audiences can well be seen from the fact that IMAX and 4DX shows are almost sold out for the entire weekend across the country, while 3D shows are the best in line. Moreover, word of mouth amongst audiences is quite good as well which means the film will now have an uninterrupted run till the troika of Bollywood releases (Khel Khel Mein, Stree 2, Vedaa) arrive in August 15.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per various box office sources
